In October 2026, we introduced a completely new game rating methodology designed to be more credible, differentiated, and useful to players. This page explains exactly how we rate casino games on CryptoLists.
Our ratings are based on hands-on testing, mathematical analysis, and transparent methodology. The rating must be the result of the review – not a predetermined score.
Our 5-Dimension Rating System
Every game we review is scored across five weighted dimensions. The overall rating is calculated automatically as a weighted average – editors cannot manually inflate scores.
๐ฐ Player Value & Game Math (30% weight)
What we measure:
- RTP (Return to Player) – Higher is better. We note if casinos can configure lower RTPs, which gives a lower rating
- RTP Variants – We document all available RTP versions (e.g., 96.5%, 94.5%, 92%)
- House Edge – For table and live games
- Feature Buy Costs – We evaluate if bonus buys offer fair value
- Mathematical Transparency – Does the provider clearly publish game math?
- Risk/Reward Balance – Max win potential vs. volatility
A game with 95% RTP when alternatives offer 96-97% will score lower here, regardless of other qualities.
๐ฎ Gameplay & Features (25% weight)
What we measure:
- Core Gameplay Loop – Is it engaging and well-designed?
- Mechanics & Innovation – Unique features, decision points, player agency
- Feature Depth – Bonus rounds, multipliers, special modes
- Pacing – Does the game maintain interest over extended play?
- Replay Value – Reasons to return to this specific game
Different criteria apply by game type: slots focus on bonus mechanics, crash games on decision-making, live games on betting options.
๐ฑ UX & Accessibility (15% weight)
What we measure:
- Controls & Interface – Intuitive, responsive, well-organized
- Clarity – Can you understand the game without reading rules?
- Mobile Usability – Full functionality on phones and tablets
- Accessibility Features – Colorblind modes, adjustable speed, mute options
- Learning Curve – How quickly can new players understand the game?
โ๏ธ Technical Execution (15% weight)
What we measure:
- Loading Speed – Initial load and between-round performance
- Stability – Crashes, freezes, disconnection handling
- Responsiveness – Input lag, animation smoothness
- Bug-Free Operation – Visual glitches, calculation errors
- Reconnection Behavior – What happens if you lose connection mid-spin?
๐จ Originality & Presentation (15% weight)
What we measure:
- Visual Design – Graphics quality, art style, coherence
- Audio Design – Music, sound effects, audio feedback
- Theme Execution – Does the theme enhance the experience?
- Animation Quality – Smooth, purposeful, not distracting
- Originality – Does it bring something new, or is it a clone?
Rating Anchors
We use consistent standards so ratings mean the same thing across all games:
| Score | Rating | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 9.0 – 10.0 | Exceptional | Category-leading. Sets the standard for its type. |
| 8.0 – 8.9 | Very Good | Highly recommended with minor areas for improvement. |
| 7.0 – 7.9 | Good | Solid choice. Good execution with some limitations. |
| 6.0 – 6.9 | Above Average | Competent but not standout. Suitable for fans of the genre. |
| 5.0 – 5.9 | Average | Mediocre. Better alternatives likely exist. |
| 4.0 – 4.9 | Below Average | Notable weaknesses. Consider alternatives. |
| <4.0 | Weak | Significant problems. Not recommended. |
Important: A 10/10 in any dimension requires documented justification. We avoid rating inflation – scores of 9+ should be rare and reserved for truly exceptional games.
Our Testing Process
๐ฎ How We Test Each Game
- Play the game ourselves – No ratings based on screenshots or provider materials alone
- Test on multiple devices – Desktop (Chrome/Firefox) and mobile (iOS/Android)
- Verify game math – Cross-reference stated RTP with provider documentation
- Document features – Trigger bonus rounds, test all game modes
- Take original screenshots – Our own gameplay captures, not provider assets
- Record gameplay – Video evidence for important reviews (optional)
Evidence States
Each game review clearly shows how it was tested:
Based on provider documentation and research. Limited hands-on testing.
Personally tested by our team. All mechanics verified in demo mode.
Additionally verified at a live casino with real money play.
Note: Demo mode testing is sufficient for full game ratings when it represents the actual game build. Real-money verification is an additional evidence layer, not a requirement.
What We Don’t Do
โ We Never:
- Rate based on our session wins/losses – A losing session doesn’t mean bad RTP
- Include “Availability” in game quality – How many casinos offer it is metadata, not quality
- Include “Winnings” as a rating category – Short-term results don’t reflect game math
- Let providers pay for higher scores – All ratings are editorial independent
- Convert old ratings mathematically – Legacy games get fresh assessments
Game-Type Specific Criteria
While all games use the same five rating dimensions, the internal assessment criteria vary by game type:
๐ฐ Slots
- RTP variants and volatility levels
- Base-game vs bonus round balance
- Bonus buy availability and value
- Retrigger mechanics and max win potential
๐ Crash & Instant Games
- RTP/house edge clarity
- Cash-out mechanics and fairness
- Decision-making opportunities
- Risk level options and pacing
๐ Live & Table Games
- House edge by bet type
- Stream quality and latency
- Betting window and UI responsiveness
- Side bet options and multiplier mechanics
Best For / Skip If
Every game review includes guidance on who the game suits:
โ Best For
Player types who would most enjoy this game based on its strengths.
โ Skip If
Player types who should consider alternatives due to specific limitations.
Legacy Ratings
Games reviewed before October 2026 may show legacy ratings from our previous system. These games will be reassessed using the new methodology, prioritized by:
- Organic traffic (most visited games first)
- Commercial importance
- Game popularity at crypto casinos
Legacy ratings are clearly marked and should not be compared directly with new methodology scores.
