Crypto Deposit, Fiat Balance: Which Casinos Still Force Local Currency?

Many casinos market themselves as “crypto casinos”, but not all offer a truly crypto-native experience.

The purpose of this article is to investigate what actually happens after depositing Bitcoin, Ethereum or another cryptocurrency. We are not reviewing bonuses or game libraries right now. Instead, we are documenting the real player experience.

Some casinos accept crypto deposits but still run the player account in fiat. In those cases, Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency may be converted when deposited, while bets, balances and winnings are recorded in USD, EUR or another currency. Other casinos keep the balance in crypto and merely display a fiat equivalent without converting the underlying funds. But what does “crypto casino” actually mean? We differentiate between crypto native sites where a Bitcoin deposit remains in Bitcoin and those with forced fiat balances where even deposits with ETH or BTC will be shown and credited as EUR or USD. The problem here is that there might be conversion spreads, fees or exchange-rate differences.

There are also many multi currency casinos or hybrid casinos, where players can use both fiat and crypto for deposit and choose which currency to use. Finally, there are the fiat display casinos which keep the deposited funds in crypto, but the interface displays an approximate fiat equivalent.

In this article we investigate and point several that force local currency use, others that only display in fiat and also show a couple that are real crypto casinos without conversions.

How we tested the casinos

Crypto Lists follow a testing methodology where we start with registering an account and then make a deposit with Bitcoin, USDT, ETH, Solana or Litecoin in most cases. We document any KYC requirements that are sent to us, both before the deposit and/or before the cashout. You’ll also find info in each review about which country or countries a certain brand was tested from. We tend to not use bonuses in most cases, in order to be able to cash out easily so both deposits and withdrawals can be tested. You’ll find which wallets we used, the exact withdrawal time, the blockchain transaction ID and an independent rating for each brand we tested. Below are quite a few crypto focused casinos that enable local currencies, and in the end you get some alternatives that keep the funds in the original deposit method.

Enforced Exchanges Into Fiat

Stakepix: Balance Coverted Into EUR

Stakepix have several bonuses targeting crypto players, such as their crypto first deposit bonus, but the balance is always converted into EUR or another local currency if you are residing outside EU. stakepix eur balance All conversions from cryptocurrencies such as XRP or Solana are automatic. You will only see the Euro amount in your wallet and the interface does not show the exact conversion cost or exchange-rate difference. On a positive note, they have very low minimum deposit (from 5 EUR for BNB, or less than 3.5 EUR for Solana). However, it’s only possible to cash out 50 EUR or more, so it doesn’t help much with low minimum deposits if the minimum withdrawal is 10x higher.

BoraWin: BRL Instead of Crypto Balance

Since BoraWin is focused on the Brazilian market, they always show Brazilian reais (BRL) as the account currency, even if you deposit with crypto. BoraWin Roulette win in BRLThe minimum deposits start from 1 USDT with 5 different blockchains supported. From Litecoin and Solana, the minimum deposits start from 1 USD as well. It’s a shame that they automatically exchange any crypto deposit into Brazilian reais, making you lose money in the exchange. Deposits with Pix are also supported and the minimum deposit start from 10 BRL, while the maximum amount is 15,000. For withdrawals, it starts from around 0.19 LTC so less than 7.5 EUR when writing this article. So in general, BoraWin is fair for players from many countries around the world, but you have to live with RS (Reais) showing instead of a crypto balance and instead of any alternative local currency.

Zeno Bet: Dollar Shows For Everyone

Typical for many hybrid casinos with support for both bank transfers, card payments and crypto is having USD as the default currency, which is the case on Zeno Bet. Zeno Bet Balance DisplayWhat’s a bit strange here is that several deposit methods are not available for withdrawals, so if choosing Tether (USD) on the Tron blockchain, you have to go for Tether on Base or ERC-20 or going with ETH or USDC instead to cash out. It was possible to cash out from 20 USDT on the Ethereum network, so that part was not too difficult. It should be noted that Zeno Bet doesn’t have a recognized license, but their business is operated from a company in Costa Rica.

Lets 777: Only USD & Poor Exchange Rates

Like many crypto casinos, the minimum deposit starts rather low. Fiat balance shown - Lets 777On Lets 777 the balance is always in fiat (USD) and never in crypto, so you’ll lose out a fair cut on every deposit and withdrawal due to exchange rate differences. You can initiate gameplay from 10 USD and in our test, the effective difference was approximately 0.75–2%. Cashout starts at 50 USD, so quite a bit higher than many of the other sites mentioned above.

Royalen Casino: Fiat & Changing Minimum Withdrawal Limits

For casinos that only have Bitcoin and ETH for deposits, you would expect that everything is shown in crypto. Since they have over 90 different game providers, it was surprising that only EUR is shown on providers such as Evolution and Pragmatic Play where crypto balances usually are displayed. Royalen Winning 100 EURYou can briefly see the exact crypto amount on desktop when browsing around, but on mobile it has been shown as fiat inside games and nothing is shown when you browse around. But the most annoying thing with Royalen is that their minimum withdrawal limits varied from day to day. We contacted the support multiple times to confirm the minimum cashout limit and got different answers within a two-day period, ranging from 0.0004 BTC to €50 and finally 0.002 BTC that we managed to handle after winning 100 EUR on live roulette. In which currency your balance is shown is irrelevant if it’s impossible to withdraw, but luckily we managed after lots of luck.

Fiat Currency Used Only for Display

If this is exactly what you don’t want to find when playing on a crypto casino, then check out the two options below:

LTC Casino: Both Fiat & Crypto Shows

LTC Casino shows the fiat amount on the top of the site, and the actual crypto balance on your account in the account balance drop down. ltc casino balance fiat cryptoThat way, you get to see both. It’s worth to noting that LTC Casino doesn’t force local currency. They just display in US Dollar terms for convenience reasons, while keeping the entire crypto balance without any conversion at any point in time. That way, you don’t lose out on exchange rates / conversion costs when cashing out. LTC Casino has very low minimum deposit limits, starting from 0.01 LTC, 0.05 SOL or 5 USDT. However, for deposits it’s important to not go for Tether (USDT) if you want to cash out easily with a low deposit. The current minimum withdrawal limits are 0.1 LTC, 0.3 SOL or 100 USDT. Like many anonymous casinos, they don’t have a license which you should be aware of before playing.

Betplay: Crypto First, Fiat Below

Being a crypto only casino, Betplay does not force crypto deposits into a fiat balance. Betplay crypto first and fiat as extraInstead, you’ll see any deposits in crypto and the dropdown shows it in fiat. So it’s kind of opposite to how LTC Casino handle it, and perhaps slightly harder to figure out in your local currency terms. Still, you don’t ever have to be worried about any exchange rates or funds going lost due to conversion into fiat. Here, all is in crypto and the fiat balance is only shown in USD in order to increase the readability (make it easier to read). Betplay is among the most flexible when it comes to crypto deposits, both in terms of range and minimum withdrawal levels. For Litecoin, you only need 0.01 LTC to cash out, and for Solana it’s 0.02 SOL and for stablecoins you can cash out from 5 USDT or USDC.

Our testing above showed a clear split. Some casinos accept BTC and ETH but still run the whole account in USD or EUR, while others keep the deposited crypto intact and only show a fiat equivalent on screen. That makes “crypto casino” a fairly loose label — the key difference is what happens to your money once the deposit lands.

Note: The balances in some of the screenshots above might look very small, but it’s because what’s left in the account when confirming which brands enforce the fiat currencies and which work in the optimal way.
